A Pathological Conversation with Sarah Fay

Nearly 60 people showed up to this live recording to hear me talk about all things mental health, living a spiritual life, and my memoir Pathological: The True Story of Six Misdiagnoses with Jonathan Foster and Tori E. Owens.

Listen on the Substack app or on Spotify to hear:

  • Why psychiatric diagnoses aren’t scientifically valid or reliable—and what that means for recovery

  • How I spent 25 years in the mental health system and eventually recovered from serious mental illness

  • Why GPs are being asked to diagnose conditions they’re not trained to treat

  • The role of evolutionary psychiatry in understanding our brains are designed to freak out

  • How I relaunched Pathological on Substack and hit the USA Today bestseller list

Tori describes herself as a full-time therapist, part-time Spiritual Director/Minister, and everyday Mystic.. Her writing (specifically on her Substack, Love, Tori) and public speaking frequently bridge the gap between clinical therapy and theology, often focusing on “everyday mysticism” and contemplative practices.

Jonathan is a former pastor who left the institutional church and whose work now centers on “love-centered theology,” often deconstructing traditional views of God in favor of a non-violent, relational perspective. On his Substack, 👉🏻jonathan_foster's Substack, he points people dealing with change toward a more sustainable theology.

It was such a pleasure, and I’m so grateful to Jonathan and Tori for spending time with me and supporting my work.
