Hi, all—
Exciting news!
I have my own school: The Writers at Work Studio.
The Studio will be the primary space to study with me as a business coach and writing teacher and mentor for years to come.
Studio intensives and workshops are geared toward helping writers, creators, and visionaries create profitable businesses and learn the writing craft skills they need to earn an income in the real world.
Our first class will teach you the only thing you need in any type of writing: voice. Voice is the sense that the writer is speaking directly to you.
Voice Mastery Intensive: Earn an Income as a Writer on Substack & Beyond (4 weeks May 2 - 24, 2025) is a transformative experience designed to help you unearth, refine, and amplify your unique voice and use it to stand out in the crowded publishing landscape.
It’s not easy to learn and very hard to teach, and it is my obsession and forté.
Details on the class are below. Please share it with others. Space is limited
And thank you to everyone on the
, who has given me this opportunity to reach people and think differently about my life and what’s possible for an overeducated, overqualified woman writer in the twenty-first century. All my best,
Sarah Fay
P.S. My beloved nephew Max said I should call my school the Sarah Fay School of Writing. I thought it might be a little too…something but maybe I’ll rebrand.
Voice Mastery Intensive: Earn an Income as a Writer on Substack & Beyond

$785 Subscribers get $200 off: code EARLYENROLLMENT ends 4/24
Payment plans available with Affirm, Klarna, and Afterpay
This generative, highly interactive class is unlike any other creative writing course/workshop offered:
Weekly instruction with real-world application from me, a professor of creative writing at Northwestern University
Writing prompts that take your writing generic prose to writing that is you
Breakout rooms for personalized feedback
Substack as our lab for real-time results, including paid subscribers
But…
But I don’t have time. Flexible scheduling between Thursday evenings and Friday afternoons, plus replay access will give you confidence and advance your writing and Substack by years in 4 weeks.
But I can’t afford it. Early enrollment saves $200. Payment plans available through Afterpay, Klarna, and Affirm. A distinctive voice attracts paid subscribers—this course will pay for itself.
But will this really help me earn money? Voice is the biggest differentiator between Substacks that struggle and those that thrive.
But I’ve taken writing classes before without results. Most classes teach craft but not how to put it into practice in the real world. We work directly with your Substack content to build a sustainable writing income.
But I’m not sure if my writing is good enough yet. Writers at every level have a voice—my job is to help you uncover and amplify yours in a supportive community.
USE THE CODE earlyenrollment to get $200 off
Hope to have you!
All my best,
Sarah
P.S. What students are saying:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“As an entrepreneur in the online space, I have taken many expensive courses that make promises they cannot keep. This course was ALL substance, NO fluff. I learned a lot about myself as a writer and was able to connect with other writers around the world who were of all ages and of all abilities. It was nothing short of inspiring. I loved the whole vibe of the course- it was like learning from a much wiser, been there done that friend. This is for you if you are dabbling in writing AND if you are an experienced writer.” —Lizzie Assa
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
“This has helped me on more levels than I anticipated—confidence and greater understanding of the purpose of my Substack. I have made many changes in this regard, saved me a lot of trial and error. I loved the two pronged approach, micro and macro—and the the intentionality in creating a coherent interesting narrative that will speak to my readers. There is a great deal of fun in this method too, play with it too, not just hard craft, but an adventure. You will be surprised how much you will learn.” —Lucy Morley Williams
Sarah, I have learned so much from you about Substack. I originally joined to just transfer my MailChimp newsletter two years ago. I had no idea this digital space carried the potential for thriving creative collaboration, meaningful connections with readers and other writers, and a place where I believe my unique story and voice truly matters.
Your Notes Boost Challenges, the workshops you offer, and the live interviews with other Substack creative professionals have granted me clarity and encouragement about my place in this digital atmosphere.
I just want to thank you for your presence and support. (This is sounding a lot like a testimonial, so feel free to use it as such if you want.)
I’m with Max, The Sarah Fay School of Writing is a great name. You are THE Sarah Fay, after all! That said, The Writers at Work Studio has a strong connection to your signature Substack, which makes it a solid contender too. Either way, I have no doubt it’s going to be a success, no matter the name.
Also, I watched the Literary Salon where you presented Pathological, huge kudos! It was a well-deserved moment, and honestly, it’s time for Pathological to get the recognition it deserves.
