Sarah, Edith Wharton’s prose is as brilliant as her insights into human nature. One of the books I reread every year is Ethan Frome. Now, that is a downer. But I can’t help myself. I’m also a Gatsby re-reader, along with Mrs. Dalloway and Joan Didion’s Play it As it Lays. I don’t know what that says about me. Thank you for sharing your passion for The House of Mirth. I want to read it again.

I didn’t realize people had a problem with rereading books and I can’t imagine why. Still a lot of fights

I too love EW and House of Mirth is my absolute favorite. As someone who writes about incarceration, the book has always struck me with its many iterations of self-imprisonment. She was a genius and a badass.

In grad school I took an Edith Wharton and Henry James seminar. Did you know they were good friends? Their letters are incredible.

I had heard that, but I've never read their letters. I should. Thank you for the reminder.

I haven’t read the Edith Wharton yet.
